PRIDE came in to Wilmington and we had the good fortune to catch her on the arrival AND on the departure--two great rides for my passengers.

This week we have seen 2 pair of American Oystercatchers over on Battery Island. One of our passengers spotted several pair of bufflehead ducks--not sure how much longer they will be with us. The big dredge is still working off Bald Head and the amazing "Crab" is working on Caswell Beach.

The Cape Fear was sunny bright today as we took some passengers up to see Prices Creek Lighthouse today. Yes, there was a breeze, temps were hi 40s / lo 50s -- all in all not a bad day to be on the river. John was able to get photos of the lighthouse and the NC ferry FORT FISHER. Capt. Mitchell hailed SOLOMON T on the VHF as we approached in the ferry channel. Keep us in mind when you are traveling in the Lower Cape Fear region. We work year round.

What a great sight in the sky! Over the last few weeks Jupiter, Venus, and the Old Man in Moon put on quite a display. It was one of those occasions where the cluster of objects got closer and closer together. Thankfully we still have enough dark sky here at the coast to make it stand out.

Our son David was with us on the Cape Fear today--along with LOTS of wind. Blowing in from the SW, we were getting 15--20 knots with higher gusts. The sea state was choppy and the tide was running hard. A local sailing club was busy with an inside race and they were all working hard. Sunny bright with a few clouds. All in all, a great day on a great river that was showing some muscle.

Thanks to our passengers SOLOMON T has been keeping busy. Give us a call to reserve your passage. Our new coamings (the vertical board around the cockpit) are in place. We have rigged a temporary staff for the flags and signals.
The white ibis chicks on Battery have been entertaining and are now up and flying, move off the island with the adults. The oystercatcher chicks seen earlier are are not as visible now.
Yesterday we saw an osprey with a fish flying right over the boat!
NOTE: Wed July 25 will be the last day for ticket sales before I leave on the CGC EAGLE.
When I return in late August passenger runs will resume. Becky will be taking reservations while I am gone, with the understanding that some changes may have to be made when my schedule at Brunswick Town / Fort Anderson State Historic Site is determined upon my return.
